Description
The Utilities Section at Texas Tech is currently hiring Utilities Trainees. Utility Operators are qualified to operate the University’s central heating and cooling plants through our Training Program. Training includes fundamentals of operating power boilers, steam driven turbines, commercial refrigeration units, emergency diesel generators, and associated auxiliary equipment in order to provide utilities to campus. If selected, the applicant has 5 more opportunities to advance and get pay raises utilizing our training program. Advance placement and corresponding pay raises are available to those who qualify. Skills
Applicants must be able to understand, remember, and follow verbal and written instructions. Applicants need the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. A background and experience indicating a mechanical aptitude with knowledge of hand tools, occupational hazards, and safety precautions, is preferred. Additional related education may substitute on a year for year basis.

Notes
Applicants must be able to pass a technical pre-employment exam. Applicants must be willing to work a 7-day-on, 7-day-off, nights-days, rotating shift. Applicants who are selected will have to pass a security background check, drug test, and physical examination. Those employed are required to be certified Universal in CFC Handling within six months of hiring date. A stable work history is preferred.
